THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS

  • I’d like to hire a kilt for an event in the near future, when should I be measured for this?
    We recommend getting a professional mock fit done in store by our team of experts. This will give you the best idea as to how things will sit and look on your shape, and allow you to adjust sizing accordingly. For a premium we do take last minute hire bookings, and this is typically no less than 3 weeks prior to the event.
  • Do I need a deposit to make a hire booking?
    Yes, a deposit will be taken at the checkout. If you set up your hire instore then a deposit will be taken when we are processing your information.
  • When do I pay the remaining balance?
    The remaining balance will be payable on collection of your hire(s)
  • When do I need to return the hires?
    Hires are usually collected 2 days prior to the event For Friday and Sat functions Hires should be returned Monday Lunch time Hires are for 4/ 5 days Midweek Hires are usually collected 2 days prior to the event and returned the next available working day. We asked that you take care when packing up your hire for return in the bag given to you.
  • What happens if the hire is damaged or lost?
    Once in your possession, hires are your responsibility. Any items lost will be charged at full price and debited against your/your parties cards. Damaged goods will be covered by the accidental damage insurance added to the cost of your hire.
  • I have my hire outfit, what now?
    We advise you to try your hire outfit on as soon as you get home. This is to allow for fine tuning of the kilt outfit, i.e changing of shoes, adjusting kilt buckles due to weight changes etc. If any problems arise we urge you to call the store ASAP and we will do everything we can to help.
  • What Do You Get With Your Hire?
    At Houstons Kiltmakers, we are very proud to say that we provide you with everything you need, from head to toe for your special occasion: Kilt, belt & buckle, genuine fur sporran & chain strap, kilt pin, safety sgian dubh, ghillie brogues, socks, flashes, lightweight jacket & waistcoat, shirt & tie and cufflinks.
  • Do You Provide Hires For Boys?
    Yes! We offer 60 tartans, 4 styles of jackets(including 3 different tweed colours) in our boys hire range, again with everything you need included in your hire. Our boys range is from 6 months, 18" - 32" chest, 16" - 26" waist and 10.5" - 14" collar size.
  • Special Discounts For Party Bookings
    When booking a party of 5 kilt hire outfits, the 6th one goes Free(up to the value of £180) *This offer is available on our Exclusive collection only* 5 + 1 FREE If this offer applies to your party and it is a wedding party, we recommend that the groom goes for our unique Antique Silver wear accessories, giving you something a little bit different for your special day.
  • Final Touches On Your Kilt Hire Outfits
    At Houston Kiltmakers, our staff work incredibly hard to make sure that your outfits look a million dollars. We aim to give 100% guaranteed Hire Service.We thoroughly check your hires to make sure that everything you need is ready for you.We are happy to help with the correct kilt etiquette in store and help when trying on outfits upon collection.All of our outfits are professionally cleaned to a high standard. All hire stock is held in store, so if any changes are needed, it's an easy process.Our seamstress is in store and available 6 days a week. We are able to post hire outfits anywhere in the world. If you are hiring over a weekend, you have a 4 - 5 day hire period. For example, if your function is a Saturday , you collect from 3pm on the Thursday before and return on Monday. If it is a midweek hire, you collect the day before after 12pm and return the next working day. We can offer outfits for all shapes and sizes, from boys to men.There are numerous car parking facilities around our shop, so collection and drop off is made easier for you.
