We provide kilt packs to fit every budget. Here's what each pack includes:
Your hire includes everything down to the smallest details.
- A top-quality heavyweight kilt in the tartan of your choice
- Your selected jacket style with a matching waistcoat
- A tartan or plain tie of your choice and style
- One of our highest quality fur sporrans with chain straps
- A leather belt and metal buckle, a Sgian Dubh, and a pair of brogues of your choice
- A shirt in your preferred style and colour with cufflinks, kilt socks, and tartan flashes
Your hire includes over £1500 worth of premium Highland wear, all made in Scotland from the finest quality materials. Unlike other kilt shops our hires come with absolutely everything with a wide variety of customisation & upgrades. Most other shops you need to buy your own shirt & socks, with us its all included.
Step 1 - Choosing Your Tartan
The first and most crucial step in arranging your kilt hire with us is selecting the Tartan. We offer two primary collections: The Exclusive Collection and the Additional Collection, with other options available in-store.
With selected tartans in our hire range we offer 6 hires for the price of 5 ideal for party bookings.
We have the largest tartan range for hire in Scotland.
If your coming in-store we can run you through our brochures & swatch booking and show you different jacket/ tartan combinations to gauge a feel for what your looking for.
We also offer mock fits if your torn between 2 tartans to help you visualise the look, our experts are great at styling outfits and make the process easy. But your hire is also fully customisable so you have full creative control.
If browsing online you can view our tartans here, alongside model images with every tartan and we even have a gallery section on our homepage. under each tartan page there is styling notes alongside the imagery to help you build your outfit.
Step 2 - Choosing Your Jacket
Selecting a jacket style and colour that complements your Tartan is simple. Under each tartan will be multiple model photos showcasing different jacket colours & styles alongside styling advice underneath.
It's usually best to match the jacket with the main or a selected colour from the tartan so its complimentary.
Houston Kiltmakers jackets are crafted from super lightweight fine wool Barathea, with a variety of button and finishing options.
For daytime / semi casual events we recommend a coloured tweed jacket this is very modern and pairs well with most tartans.
For an evening or formal occasion we would recommend a Prince Charlie or Argyll Braemar jacket. Both of which have the option for button upgrades.
If your instore our team will talk you through this and show you jacket options & pairings on our styled mannequins. You may possibly have the opportunity to do a mock fit to see possible jackets.
Step 3 - Finishing & Accessories
We offer two finishings options: Shiny or Antique. The Antique option is an upgrade and will increase the cost of the hire.
Antique buttons and accessory finishings give a more classic traditional aged look, shiny buttons & finishings are more polished and modern but just comes down to personal preference.
In addition to finishings, we provide options for Socks, Ties, and Sporrans. If you're unsure about your choices online, select any options, and we can review and update them later when you visit in-store or after we contact you following your order.
If in store our team will provide recommendations for possible accessory styling and you can browse our brochures and mannequins to see how you would like to customise your hire. Often grooms will opt for different jackets, ties or accessories to stand out.
Step 4 - Additional Information
To ensure we accommodate your hire and that your event runs smoothly, we require some additional information when placing an order in-store or online:
- Your sizes: We recommend visiting the store to be measured by our trained staff, but we can also send a self-measurement form.
- Date of the function
- Length of hire
- Names of everyone wearing the hire(s)
- Party name, if applicable
We will contact you after an order is placed online to gather the required information or provide further advice and information on the hire process. If your in store our team will ensure this is a speedy process and take all required details then and there.
Long Hires / Last Minute Hires-
Long hires are perfect for those jet-set occasions. If your having to travel out with your local area's we offer long hires which are ideal for those travelling for a function. Normally a kilt hire is hired out to cover 1 weekend i.e. for a Saturday function you would pick it up on a Thursday and return on a Monday hence why its booked for the weekend.
This isn't always realistic for those who may be travelling to a different part of the country or flying internationally. A long hire is priced based on the duration of time the hire is out and usually returned on an agreed date when suitable.
Last minute hires are exactly as they sound, ideally for the best selection of tartans and perfect outfit we recommend booking 6-9 months in advance to ensure you have the widest range of choice. Nevertheless we offer last minute hires for those last minute occasions. So even with limited noticed we can still ensure your looking and feeling your best for your special events.
Due to the nature of last minute hires this reduces your selection of tartans and jackets based on what is available in your size & what we can have ready for your function date , this is why we encourage booking in advance.
With enough notice if possible we can ship your kilt hires directly to you depending on the distance & notice given, our team will always strive to provide the best service & options available to you.
